Action
Learn
Human trafficking is based on supply and demand. Increased demand for cheap goods promotes the demand for cheap labor, resulting in the exploitation of vulnerable workers. The increased demand for commercial sex, especially involving minors, fuels a burgeoning global sex industry.
Respond
- Advocate for legislation that increases penalties for traffickers and enhances protections for victims
- Write a letter to editors of newspapers where you see that sexual exploitation is glamorized and victims are treated as offenders. Challenge language that normalizes sexual exploitation in the news and media.
- Hold a screening and discussion of the film, The Dark Side of Chocolate, which examines the role of demand in the chocolate industry.
